fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Olympics)

So the first set of gymnastics apparatus finals happened, and I watched them. Men's floor, women's vault, men's pommel horse, and women's floor. There were... a lot of ups and downs here.

The men's floor routines were all pretty great, and the Spanish silver medalist's continued glee over his win was at first endearing, then just kind of hilarious after it went on. He was kind of a ham. ;)

As for women's vault, I'm still trying to figure out why Alicia Sacramore scored so low when she had one perfect vault and one nearly perfect, with only a slight hope on the landing, while China's Cheng Fei still managed to take bronze after falling on her bum. Maybe there was a vast difference in the level of difficulty of their vaults? I don't know. But it seemed...off to me. Heh.

And poor, poor Sasha Artemev. :( His pommel routine is so awesome when he sticks it, but that just didn't happen today, and I feel so bad for him. On the plus side, though, it was great to see Croatia and Britain winning medals.

And women's floor. I have the most mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand, my girl Daiane went out of bounds and didn't medal, and I'm still pretty sad about that. :( On the other hand, Sandra Izbasa, Shawn Johnson, and Nastia Liukin were all absolutely wonderful, and I was glad to see them win. Nastia now has a full set of medals. ;)

I've decided that in the next round of apparatus finals, I'm not going to cheer anyone on, because I noticed that this time, literally everyone I rooted for either fell or went out of bounds (or in the case of Alicia received mysteriously low scores). Apparently I'm bad luck? :(
