fialleril: [and not even time for breakfast] (six impossible things)
So Amy showed Burton's Alice for community night tonight, which is not something I object to at all. And I had a silly little realization, which is nevertheless kind of spoilery so here is a cut )

fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (flowers)
I made some icons of [livejournal.com profile] irrel's lovely [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti artwork.

If you take any, please credit [livejournal.com profile] irrel for the art and [livejournal.com profile] fialleril for the icon. Thanks!

So, back in the day [livejournal.com profile] irrel  was offering up art for [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti, and, well, I couldn't resist.

Here is the awesomeness I have caused to be brought into the world. (Yes, I am irrationally proud of a thing I had no part in producing!)

(Click the pic to go to her post.)

Yeah, yeah, apparently I'm a romantic when it comes to these two. Whatever. I've accepted it.
fialleril: [o pray for the wanderer, pray for me] (Our Lady of Mordor)
I'm currently rereading The Lord of the Rings and have rekindled my epic love for Frodo Baggins and Galadriel. Possibly there will be a further meta-post soon! In the meantime, I seem to have committed icons.

Also there are some Trek icons. It happens.

Thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] recumbentgoat for her generous donation! She requested Star Trek TOS icons, particularly of Spock and Uhura and Sarek and Amanda. I threw in a few reboot icons for kicks. :)

Lot's Wife

fialleril: [there is water under] (under the rocks and stones)
I finally manage to write something for the awesome [livejournal.com profile] where_no_woman comm, and it's Amanda deathfic. I fear this is not an auspicious beginning!

Also, I apparently have a thing for drawing parallels between religious texts/images and the destruction of Vulcan in general and Amanda Grayson in particular. Um. Sorry about that?

Title: Lot's Wife
Characters: Amanda, some Spock and Sarek
Timeframe: mid-movie
Genre: character study
Rating: PG-13 for character death
Word Count: 688
Summary: Who mourns one woman in a holocaust?
Notes: This fic was inspired by this translation of Anna Akhmatova's poem "Lot's Wife". I'm told this is not the most literal translation, but it was the translation that inspired the fic.

fialleril: [y'all don't know 'bout my flawless logic] (T'Pring)
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the single most glorious moment of my career.

Yes, that is Lady Gaga!T'Pring, Vulcan goddess of pop, brought to you by the amazing [livejournal.com profile] starfoozle.

Her skirt is made of lensflare. I can achieve no more greatness in my life.

fialleril: [y'all don't know 'bout my flawless logic] (T'Pring)
I have ridiculous revelations late at night. (Shut up; 11:30 is late!) And lately they all revolve around Lady Gaga?

Out of sheer masochism, apparently, I did a search for T'Pring on DeviantArt. And, as expected, the number of pics that had "bitch" in the title was over 9000. (Actually, I tell a lie. There are only like 30 pics of her tops. Sad day.)

And while I was doing this, I happened to be listening to Lady Gaga, specifically "Bad Romance." And suddenly, it just...clicked.

T'Pring is the Lady Gaga of Vulcan.

pictorial evidence, maybe? )
fialleril: [you don't know it, but they're actually OTBFF] (Gaila and Spock)
I have no idea where this came from. This is not what I intended to write, but it is, apparently, what I wrote! I only hope that it isn't as horrible as I fear it is!

Title: Five Times Spock Wasn’t Jealous of James T. Kirk, and One Time He Really, Really Was
Characters: Spock, Kirk, Uhura, Gaila, McCoy, Winona Kirk, mention of Amanda
Timeframe: post-movie
Genre: mostly gen, a mix of humor and angst, with a side of Spock/Uhura and a hint of Kirk/McCoy if you squint
Rating: PG
Word Count: 2289
Summary: Does what it says on the tin.
Notes: Uh. So for some reason I wrote this before finishing that one fic about how Nyota, Gaila, and Spock are all BFF at the Academy. So, there's that.
Disclaimer: Trek isn't mine. All I can claim is the made up bits of Orion culture.

happy holidays!

fialleril: [look how they shine for you] (stars - Uhura)
Merry Christmas to all of you celebrating tomorrow!

It seems that our plans to go to Midnight Mass tonight have been foiled by the weather. And my plans to give [livejournal.com profile] veriond a Christmas present on Christmas day have been foiled by the postal service. :( She'll just have to get it late, I suppose.

Tomorrow I shall have my Star Trek DVD, so expect some crazy spam posts soon. Also pictures. I cannot promise that [livejournal.com profile] veriond and I won't dress in our Trek shirts and take pictures with the DVD.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] veriond has introduced me to a pretty excellent show called Seirei no Moribito (which you can watch at the link). Here is her post on the subject, but personally I am most excited by the prospect of my OTP formulation actually existing in the world. Namely, badass and emotionally repressed lady + empathic and emotionally giving dude = OTP. Also, it is a nice contained universe (only 26 episodes and the story is wrapped up), and it's one of those stories where everything is a shade of grey, which is always a thing I like!
fialleril: [tending as all music does, toward silence] (Spock)
So the Star Trek shirt I ordered from a cereal box way back in June finally arrived this week! They had to re-order it, 'cause they ran out of science blue. (Of course.) [livejournal.com profile] veriond got a command gold one, so the forecast is likely that we'll take pics together over the break!

This, naturally, has caused me to think about what position I would hold on a Starfleet ship, and I have reached the logical conclusion that, in the world of the future, I would be the Catholic chaplain. Why is this logical, you ask? Well! For one thing, it only makes sense that Starfleet would have several chaplains of different religious traditions for a mission that lasts as long as five years. This is pretty standard military practice now, and I don't think that's going to disappear. Also, there will absolutely be women priests in the world of the future.

Now, why in the world the Catholic chaplain would be running around in a blue shirt, I'm sure I don't know, except that blue seems to be kind of the catch-all color. Red is either ops or security, and gold is command, but blue covers everything from science to medical to history and anthropology. So...theology wouldn't be too much of a stretch?

ANYWAY. Here is a meme from [livejournal.com profile] yenneffer.

In 2009, fialleril resolves to...
Find a better toph.
Go to beowulf every Sunday.
Eat more jesus.
Cut down on my worldbuilding.
Give up cooking.
Volunteer to spend time with biblical studies.

Eat more Jesus. Pfft. I guess it's a good thing I'm becoming Catholic!
fialleril: [there is a universe of questions] (stars - Spock)
1. Happy Hanukkah to those celebrating tonight!

2. Huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lumy12 and [livejournal.com profile] haydens_angel81 for the holiday cards! They're adorning our dining room table now.

3. So, uh...did anyone read the fic commentary I posted for "Clone Wars GI"? I'm not looking for comments or anything, but I'm just curious about whether it was read!

4. Apparently they are making a movie of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Natalie Portman is starring and producing. This...could be really interesting. For a given value of interesting.

5. Here is a fic about T'Pring being fierce and awesome. The world would be a better place if there were more like it!

a meme, at last

fialleril: [you can hold on or let go] (a word we use to plug holes with)
This post is partly about the meme, but mostly an excuse to use this icon, which I have longed to create since I first saw the movie, and finally the internet gods have seen fit to bestow caps. So I'll just sit here and bask in my icon for a while.

But in any case, the meme! [livejournal.com profile] starfoozle and [livejournal.com profile] betareject both gave me questions ages ago, so it's about time I answer them!

Leave me a comment saying "Boom-cha" and I will respond by asking you five questions that satisfy my curiosity. Update your journal with the answers to the questions, including this in the post.

Or, the promised Halloween pics plus a good bit of unexpected and unwanted drama on the side. Things which have forced me to add "overidentifying with Vulcans" to my LJ interest list in an effort to bring something at least kind of amusing out of the situation.

But first the good things. We had a Halloween potluck at our JV house on Friday, to which none of the people we were required to invite actually came. This was, in fact, not a bad thing, since we didn't know any of those people, anyway. And some folks Amy knew from work and an awesome lady named Adriane who is a friend of one of our support people did come. (It turns out Adriane is a hairdresser and is going to cut our hair for free tonight, so!) Also our other support person, Mary Ellen, and one of her friends. Good times were had. We held a costume contest and gave away some truly awful, glow-in-the-dark pictures of Jesus as prizes. (They were donated to us, but they had to go. It was for the best.)

Under this cut there are pictures! And incoherent asexual rage! )
fialleril: [tending as all music does, toward silence] (Spock)
It is called A Compass Wouldn't Help At All and it is a fic by [livejournal.com profile] rawles concerning Star Trek and alternate realities being...truly alternate? Also, it is really good. And you should all read it.

That concludes this terribly articulate post.
