clone alphabet fic

fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (a history of resistance)
Yay, something that's not a navel-gazing Barrie!post. I'm sure you're all relieved.

I finally finished another of the alphabet fic requests, this one for [livejournal.com profile] starfoozle, who requested "desert + clones of choice."

Title: desert
Characters: Cut Lawquane
Timeframe: Battle of Geonosis
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: military violence and potential triggers
Summary: It wasn’t the war itself that made Cut want to leave. It was the desert.
Notes: Aaand, we're back to the war fics, ladies and gentlemen. With this one, though, I wanted to explore Cut's decision to desert from a rather different perspective. Also, yes, the inspiration for this fic really was the horrible desert/desert homonym pun.

desert. 630 words. )
fialleril: [my eyes are yours; they are not blue, but they're wide open] (martyr Kitster)
Title: Clone Wars GI
Author: [livejournal.com profile] fialleril
Rating: PG-13
Character(s) and/or Pairing(s): Anakin/Padmé (pairing minor), Kitster, Obi-Wan, the Jedi Council
Summary: When Anakin Skywalker runs from the war and the monster he is becoming, he finds that the only place he can go is home.
Warning(s): mention of military violence, some disturbing imagery, and post-trauma symptoms
Note: This commentary is at least twice as long as the original fic. Because of that, it's actually going up in two posts. >_<

Thanks to everyone who sent me a snowflake! <3 You all are wonderful.

And in other news, I've finally finished the commentary on Clone Wars GI.

fialleril: [primum non nocere] (Barriss Offee)
It was pretty inevitable that this latest episode would spawn a new set of Nervous Conditions drabbles. It's also no surprise that I started with Barriss.

Series Title: Nervous Conditions
Character: Barriss Offee
Spoilers: for episode 206, "Weapons Factory"
Word Count: 203
Summary: Barriss Offee is a rebel.
Notes: I've noticed that, across universes, my Barriss tends to be a secret rebel at heart. How that's true is different in different universes, but it's always present somehow. It was interesting to see that trait reflected in her character in this episode.

fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (pro patria mori)
Icon fic for [livejournal.com profile] zigsternenstaub. I just realized I haven't written FUBAR!Anakin in canon 'verse in quite a while, so hopefully it's not awful!

Title: Fortunate Son
Characters: Anakin, Palpatine, Padmé
Timeframe: Clone Wars era
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 766
Summary: In the aftermath of Hisra, Anakin comes home on leave.
Notes: This story is basically what happened because Clone Wars GI didn't happen.

dulce et decorum est pro patria mori )
fialleril: [This is the nature of war: it turns us into enemies.] (FUBAR!Anakin)
Yes, another wartime Anakin fic. I should just admit defeat, I guess.

By the way, the subject title of this post is from the song "I Was Only Nineteen" by Redgum, which has owned my soul lately. (YouTube link here.)

Series Title: Nervous Conditions
Character: Anakin Skywalker
Spoilers: None
Word Count: 240
Summary: Padmé thinks he doesn’t trust her, but that’s not true.
Notes: This one actually has a much stronger ROTS feel to it, and isn't directly connected to the Clone Wars show, but it is about Anakin's war experiences, and it seemed to fit better within this series than as a stand alone fic.

wartime Pygmalion

fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Tatooine)
Some day soon I will write something happy again. Or at least a fic that doesn't center around war. But in the meantime, you get this.

I'd been reading about child soldiers again before I watched Episode 19 of Clone Wars, so really this was pretty much inevitable. This was a pretty disturbing episode, and the whole time I watched it this statement by a former Burundi military commander kept running through my head: "Sensible commanders always grab whatever weapons are easiest at hand, and no weapon is easier to get or control than children."

If I were giving these actual titles, this one would be called "Pygmalion."

Series Title: Nervous Conditions
Characters: Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano
Spoilers: For Episode 19, "Storm Over Ryloth"
Word Count: 570
Summary: He never tells Ahsoka that it’s not his idea to give her command of the squadron.

From [livejournal.com profile] albumsontheside this time.

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

fialleril: [This is the nature of war: it turns us into enemies.] (remember)
Because apparently this is the kind of stuff I write when I'm stressed and high on lack of sleep. I blame [livejournal.com profile] albumsontheside.

Title: Psalm 137
Characters: Anakin and the Jedi kids
Timeframe: ROTS
Genre: psychological, tragedy
Rating: PG-13 for military violence and disturbing images
Word Count: 687
Summary: During the storming of the Temple, Anakin has a flashback to the war.
Notes: If you're curious about the title, the original psalm is here.

fialleril: [the things they carried] (Chopper)
Needed another break, so I thought I'd post this.

Series Title: Nervous Conditions
Character: Jester
Spoilers: For Episode 16 "The Hidden Enemy"
Word Count: 271
Summary: On the second day of the battle, Jester loses his weapon.
Notes: Since this episode was already so heavy on the Vietnam allusions, I decided to take it one step further. Loosely inspired by Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried.

Jester )
fialleril: [no weapon is easier to get or control than children] (Ahsoka)
Still on semi-hiatus, but I needed a break so I thought I'd post this. Thanks to everybody who commented on my last entry. :)

Series Title: Nervous Conditions
Character: Ahsoka Tano
Spoilers: For Episode 9 "Cloak of Darkness"
Word Count: 215
Summary: I wasn’t really going to hurt him, she thinks to herself, and that’s what she tells Master Luminara, too.

Ahsoka Tano )
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Slick)
Series Title: Nervous Conditions
Character: Slick
Spoilers: For Episode 16 "The Hidden Enemy"
Word Count: 190
Summary: Even if they kill him it was worth it.

Slick )
fialleril: [ofer middangeard monnum sended] (stars)
Remember this post? I TOLD YOU I WOULD DO IT.

Series Title: Nervous Conditions
Character: Anakin Skywalker
Spoilers: None really.
Word Count: 320
Summary: He hates it when they’re given leave.
Notes: This fic originated as a way of trying to tie the fairly mellow Clone Wars Anakin together with his more traumatized messed up ROTS incarnation.

fialleril: [the things they carried] (Chopper)
Series Title: Nervous Conditions
Character: Chopper
Spoilers: For Episode 16 "The Hidden Enemy"
Word Count: 164
Summary: His squad mates know about the necklace now, so Chopper doesn’t bother to hide it anymore.

Chopper )
fialleril: [no weapon is easier to get or control than children] (Ahsoka)
Initially I thought this series would just be about the clones, but Ahsoka makes it so easy. (As does Anakin, who will be showing up soon.)

Series Title: Nervous Conditions
Character: Ahsoka Tano
Spoilers: None really.
Word Count: 234
Summary: She’s found that the war really isn’t so bad, if she just thinks about it right.

Ahsoka Tano )
fialleril: [ofer middangeard monnum sended] (stars)
So [livejournal.com profile] veriond and I were discussing possible reasons for Anakin being so toned down in Clone Wars, as opposed to his ROTS incarnation.

It should be noted that I am in love with Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried. He has this way of writing scenes that are both hilarious and almost Orwellian in the way they push back and use humor to reveal tragedy.

And so in the course of this discussion I said half jokingly, "Maybe Clone Wars Anakin pops tranquilizers, like Ted Lavender in The Things They Carried."

And.

And now I can't unsee it.

"Hey General Skywalker, how's the war today?"
"Mellow, man. We got ourselves a real mellow war."

Nervous Conditions

fialleril: [we do what we're told] (clone)
It was inevitable that I would write Clone Wars fic, really. Especially after that last episode.

This is the first in what will be a series of drabbles focusing on different characters and their reactions to war. They'll probably mostly be Clone Wars related, though I have a couple that are ROTS-flavored.

Series Title: Nervous Conditions
Character: Shiv
Spoilers: For the comic Cold Snap. In fact, you probably need to read that to understand this fic. And I highly recommend it. (Go to the table of contents page and click the Cold Snap link.)
Word Count: 159
Summary: For the first few days after he hears the news, Shiv doesn’t know what to do.
Notes: Remember that meme where I promised to make something random for people? This series is the thing I'm making for [livejournal.com profile] starfoozle, who is far too encouraging of my love for dysfunctional clones.

Anakin in Vietnam

Saturday, February 7th, 2009 06:57 pm
fialleril: [the things they carried] (Chopper)
Actually Anakin has very little to do with this post, but I'm playing off of the book title Achilles in Vietnam (which is a book everyone should read, btw).

I've been convinced for a while that the Clone Wars are basically the GFFA equivalent of America's war in Vietnam. With everything that entails. No matter how much the Jedi like to preach about how they fight for the freedom of the galaxy's people, the viewer and many of the characters know this isn't a "good war." (It isn't really about freedom either, or the Jedi might have made at least a peep about the problem of rampant slavery on Tatooine when they made their deal with Jabba. But I digress.) It's a war about stopping the spread of communism the Separatist Movement. And not much else.

This week's episode of Clone Wars showcased that really well. And for once, I have more good than bad to say about the episode!

here there be spoilers! )
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Ishmael Beah)
If only they could find something worth fighting and killing for, maybe they'd be worth respecting.

/snark

Yes, that's right, it's time for a little rant about the last two Clone Wars episodes. Sadly, the meta droids were mostly absent yet again, and so I may not have much good to say about this one.

under a cut for those avoiding spoilers )

I suppose I could use the Team Fail icon for this post, but I think Ishmael Beah is actually more appropriate.
fialleril: [the ghost behind you] (orpheus & eurydice)
It's way overdue, but here at last is [livejournal.com profile] polly_moopers' requested drabble! She wanted "a piece of fiction about all of Anakin and Padmé's babies." I...chose to interpret that creatively. Yeah, we'll go with that.

Title: After the War
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1160 (Because apparently I do not understand the concept of a drabble!)
Characters: Padmé, Anakin, OC kids leik woah, mention of Palo and Kitster (because what's an AU without Palo and Kitster?)
Summary: The kids are playing in the meadow, and Anakin wants a bigger house.
Notes: I think Polly probably wanted something funnier than this - sorry Polls! Instead you get stuck with my weird obsession with not!Jedi!Anakin and Padmé running a home for traumatized children.
Also, if you want a fluffier bunny ending to Clone Wars GI, this fic could easily be seen as a year-or-so-later epilogue to that fic. And the kids mentioned in this fic will probably be reappearing at some point, but I don't want to spoil anything. ;)
Fun Fact: Anakin and Padmé have about twenty kids in this fic, and Luke and Leia haven't even been born yet.

The war is over and we are beginning... )
