I am not a princess

fialleril: [rebel girl you are the queen of my world] (rebel)
My sister introduced me to this video when she was here over the summer, and it is one of the greatest things, you all should watch it immediately. You know, if you want.

A dance group put together a routine of "twisted fairy tales" set to a compilation of Marina and the Diamonds music. They use Snow White, Sleepy Beauty, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and the Little Mermaid, but the stories are put together so that they emphasize women's choices. I don't want to spoil the fairy tale endings too much, but I will say my favorite endings are the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast story lines.

Basically, a great compilation of stories about women making their own destinies, with a wonderfully diverse cast and great choreography. Give it a watch.

An Apple for a Mother
by ~Hellanim on deviantART

Holy wow, you guys, I have never inspired art before. Askdjlakjdkap I am just going to sit here and key smash for a while because this is literally perfection.

Uuuuggggh, my life's work is complete, LET ME DIE, etc.

(I seriously need to join tumblr so I can post these things in an appropriate setting but whatever whatever I'll get to it.)

The Wedding Preparations
by ~Hellanim on deviantART

Perfect depiction of this myth, yes. Thor is so disgruntled! Also, Loki, tone yourself down, lady! You are outshining the bride!

I love this artist so much. They did the pic in my icon as well. If you have not already checked out their DA, you should do so!

Loki Gaga
by ~starfoozle on deviantART

[livejournal.com profile] starfoozle made me a Loki is Lady Gaga pic. For great justice, of course, and also because it is practically canon. As I said to her, I feel like Loki!Gaga might actually be real life canon. I mean - everything makes sense! The utterly bizarre behavior, the genuine intelligence and cleverness, the sneakiness of her messages, the way she uses sex to talk about things that aren't sex at all, the way she's totally just trolling the music industry at least half the time... I'm half convinced this is true!

Also, apparently it is my lot in life to make [livejournal.com profile] starfoozle draw me arts of various characters as Lady Gaga, but whatever, I'm okay with this.
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Kirk/McCoy)
I have decided that my life has been way too full of angst and ridiculousness lately, and so! I hereby declare this to be an official puppies and rainbows post of joy, happiness, and good things.

Spam me with good things! Tell me something excellent that has happened to you lately! Prompt me with ridiculous, saccharine, fluffy bunnies and sunshine fic ideas! Share some music that brings glee to your soul!

I made some icons of [livejournal.com profile] irrel's lovely [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti artwork.

If you take any, please credit [livejournal.com profile] irrel for the art and [livejournal.com profile] fialleril for the icon. Thanks!

fialleril: [adult!Spock only pretends to disapprove] (it is a kissing book!)
So, back in the day [livejournal.com profile] irrel  was offering up art for [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti, and, well, I couldn't resist.

Here is the awesomeness I have caused to be brought into the world. (Yes, I am irrationally proud of a thing I had no part in producing!)

(Click the pic to go to her post.)

Yeah, yeah, apparently I'm a romantic when it comes to these two. Whatever. I've accepted it.

oh la la!

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the single most glorious moment of my career.

Yes, that is Lady Gaga!T'Pring, Vulcan goddess of pop, brought to you by the amazing [livejournal.com profile] starfoozle.

Her skirt is made of lensflare. I can achieve no more greatness in my life.

fialleril: [tea makes everything better] (tea)
I had to share this, partly because the art is so good, but mainly because [livejournal.com profile] veriond and I declared this to be canon for the episode "Zuko Alone" long ago, and it's nice to see someone finally draw it. ;) Avatar + Sergio Leone westerns = best crossover ever.

fialleril: [tzai and fine literature] (Kitster)
[livejournal.com profile] starfoozle drew me this gorgeous pic of Palo for my birthday. (Click the pic to fullview it on her page.)

Just look at that dark curly hair and those dreamy eyes. I bet he's every Naboo girl's ~favorite~ artist.

ETA: Here is an icon!

Please credit [livejournal.com profile] starfoozle for the art and [livejournal.com profile] fialleril for the icon if you use it!

And she bowed her head and handed over her spirit.

The thesis, a.k.a. the sword of Damocles that's been hanging over my head for the past semester, is done! Actually, it was finished and turned in yesterday, but let's not lie, I was way too tired to make a post about such then. I've pretty much survived the last two weeks on tea, energy drinks, and sheer will-power, as well as some very encouraging words and the understanding of a couple wonderful profs.

And, surprisingly, I don't completely hate the thing. In fact, I think I might have even had a couple interesting and original things to say. And most bizarrely of all, I'm actually kind of feeling the urge to write meta about the role of the mother of Jesus in John's passion narrative. But that can wait.

Right now, I'm sipping black currant wine and eating a doughnut (because I can!) and revelling in the prospect of at least a week of freedom. There are other papers to write before the semester is done, but somehow, none of them really seem to matter when you've pulled off a massive 60 pager. (With 100 footnotes. I'm absurdly proud of the footnotes, for some reason.)

AND, as though to ensure that this day would be wonderful, this morning when I checked my mailbox on my way to work, there was a package from [livejournal.com profile] starfoozle, who, for the record, is pretty much the greatest person on earth. She sent me Ray Bradbury's Dandelion Wine (yay summer reading), along with a card containing THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF ARTWORK I HAVE EVER SEEN!

Why yes, that is Slick, Cham Syndulla, Kitster Banai, and Palo Gvanish all in one picture. You guys have no idea how long I squeed over this. I've had a ridiculous love-sick smile on my face ALL DAY because of it.

And so. Thanks so much to everybody who left comments on my post of rage a few weeks ago. *hugs you all* I'll try to catch up on reading people's posts and fics and doing some memeage soon. :)

Also, the rest of her art is pretty fab, too. And I'm not sure how I haven't seen it before?

Gungan Venus?

Lilah - Gungan Jedi - Coloured
by ~StuCunningham on deviantART

Okay, so Palo's Gungan Venus isn't a Jedi (and she's a nude), but still. This Gungan is just beautiful. I felt she deserved to be seen by more of the world. The rest of StuCunningham's work is pretty excellent, as well - especially his Gungans. Check it out!
fialleril: [another armed occupation is not freedom] (start the revolution)
I'm finally back in the land of the living, but it was a near thing for a while. I managed to come down with a flue during dead week and finals week, the same time when everything was due. But I turned in my last final on Tuesday (German translation - UGH!), had the AAR holiday party that afternoon, and then hopped a plane to Springfield on Wednesday. So now I'm writing this from my sister's dorm room computer. We're headed home tomorrow.

But I'm sure no one is interested in any of that, so let's talk fandom things! On Wednesday night [livejournal.com profile] veriond and I finally got caught up on the Clone Wars episodes.

fialleril: [my eyes are yours; they are not blue, but they're wide open] (martyr Kitster)
The late hour, my complete obsession with Olympic gymnastics, and the sudden realization that Raj Bhavsar looks an awful lot like Kitster Banai has finally brought me to this sad state of affairs.

I'm really feeling the urge to write fic about Kitster Banai the galaxy's hottest gymnast.

I have fallen to new lows, my friends. And I'm not even ashamed.
fialleril: [By virtue of all I have done, may the pain of every living creature be completely cleared away.] (Aang)
It's a day later, and my thoughts are no more articulate than they were last night. This show...you guys, it's just beautiful. I'm completely blown away.

And I had to make this icon before I did anything else. I'm sure there will be many more finale icons in the near future, but I had to make this one first. Because...you guys, Aang is amazing. I've always liked him, of course. I don't think it's possible to dislike Aang. But this finale has catapulted him onto my list of favorite fictional characters of all time.
