fialleril: [still my favorite film Holmes] (Basil of Baker Street)
Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] elle_white, because it's about time I do something not Loki-related on this journal I guess.

Give me a top 5 (any top 5) and I will comment with my top 5 with reasons.
fialleril: [still my favorite film Holmes] (Basil of Baker Street)
is this week!

If you lurk around my journal for any time at all you already know I'm asexaul, and I post about it pretty frequently (mostly in fandom contexts). What I talk about a little less often is my romantic orientation, but, as I've been realizing lately that this orientation is probably much more impactful on my daily life than is my sexual orientation, and is also the thing that makes me a bit more publicly other, I thought I would make a post about that!

Here there be long-winded, self-important rambling. )

And on a related note, I would like to write some further adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Ace Detective, for the occasion of this week, but find myself in want of prompts! Sherlock fans on the f-list, anything you would like to see?
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Sherlock Holmes)
What's this? A fanfic for a fanfic? Is it a Holmes fanfic or a Barrie fanfic? Does it count as a crossover? Who can say!

Title: Admirable Liknesses
Characters: John, Sherlock, Mrs. Hudson
Timeframe: pretty much any time Sherlock is bored
Genre: crack
Rating: PG
Word Count: 576
Summary: It was his custom of a summer evening to fire round my head, just shaving my face, until he had made a photograph of me on the opposite wall, and it is a slight proof of his skill that many of these portraits in pistol shots are considered admirable likenesses. - J.M. Barrie, The Adventure of the Two Collaborators
Notes: With apologies to Mr. Barrie, who did it better.

Admirable Likenesses )
fialleril: [I kind of want to be this man when I grow up] (J.M. Barrie)
I love J.M. Barrie. "Yes, Fia," you say, "we know." But here's the thing. I am always more interested in an author's work than in the author themselves. Sometimes I do not care about the author at all. This is even more true in film media, where actors and directors are just...not at all interesting to me.

But. Then there is Barrie. As much as I like his work, I am actually more interested in the man himself. And just. What is up with that? I mean, I don't even know.

But then he goes and does amazing things like writing self-insert fanfic for Sherlock Holmes.

Yes. Really. And because said fic is in the public domain, and also pretty short, I will share it with you as proof!

asdakjdkadopjklpaj Barrie stop being so awesome )
fialleril: [Spock disapproves of your poor life choices] (what is this even)
Spotted on a fic summary today:

In a previous fic I got John and Sarah married. This made quite a few people very upset. So to make you all happy I've killed her.

Am suddenly very tempted to write that fic where I get Sarah and John married. AND DON'T KILL HER FOR IT.

OMG you guys

The existence of this community makes me giggle with joy.

Yes. I know. I have a problem. Whatevs, I will foist it on you.
fialleril: [it's time for a few small repairs, she said] (Molly)
Yes, more Sherlock fic. I have no idea where this sudden burst of creativity came from, but I suspect this may be the last of it for a while. I hope not, though.

Title: it's time for a few small repairs, she said
Characters: Molly, Sherlock, a bit of John, mention of Jim
Timeframe: set AFTER the Great Game, so spoilers!
Genre: gen, character sketch
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1719

Summary: Molly came home with a vengeance.

Warnings: vague references to past child abuse, a lot of scenes taking place in a morgue
Notes: Title and summary stolen from Shawn Colvin's "Sunny Came Home." Yes, it's another of those "how Molly got her groove back" stories. But really, after the horrible way she was treated in the show, I don't think there can ever be too many of those fics. Here's my contribution.

Also, not Brit-picked, so feel free to point out any spectacular fail on my part!

it's time for a few small repairs, she said )
fialleril: [another armed occupation is not freedom] (Cham Syndulla)
First up, Clone Wars.

So there is a new Clone Wars interview/trailer thing here. It's mostly boring and routine stuff with the actors talking about how great their show is. BUT there are a few glimpses of new footage, and one shot that seems to make it pretty certain that Cham Syndulla will actually be back in season 3. Here's hoping he will continue to be the awesomest.

Next, very vague news about the next series of Sherlock:

A press statement from the two writers says, “We’ve been overwhelmed by the warmth of response to our new Sherlock Holmes and John Watson and can’t wait to take them on three new adventures next year. There’ll be baffling new puzzles, old friends and new enemies – whether on two, or four legs. And we might well be seeing the cold master of logic and reason unexpectedly falling. But in love? Or over a precipice? Who can tell?”

My vote is with the precipice. If they have Sherlock fall in love, I think this show will be dead to me. :(

And, finally, a very tiny piece of Korra news from Dee Bradley Baker (mixed in with a bunch of Clone Wars stuff, but whatevs):

Right now (my) kids are working through Nickelodeon’s Avatar series, which I’m very proud of and which – it’s something that’s really important to me: Clone Wars means a lot to me, and Avatar means a lot to me too – I did all the creatures in that. Well, the new Avatar, they put out an audition and they wanted a flashback for the younger Avatar – who is now a girl – from when she was this little fireball five-year-old. I had my 10-year-old audition for it, and it was just two sentences, and, well, my five-year-old said, “Daddy, I want to audition. I want to try this, too,” and so I let her give it a shot. And she booked it. And the name of the series is The Last Airbender: The Journey of Korra – and my daughter’s name is Cora. It was just kind of an odd serendipity. To have her involved, with her playing a namesake, the heroic character of the show, that’s pretty cool. Pretty wonderful.

I am intrigued by this flashback!Korra.
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Holmes and Watson)
Some kind soul on the intarwebs posted the Sherlock pilot, which is basically an earlier version of the first episode, "A Study in Pink." And I watched it. And, as it turns out, I have Thoughts!

And because I am bored, I shall inflict them on you, the unsuspecting (?) friends list public.

But because there are spoilers, here is a cut! )
fialleril: [Sherlock thinks your PWP is dull] (bored now)
I write asexual comedies that are in no way based on the germ of personal experience. No indeed. None of that here.

Maybe I should just admit defeat and call this a series. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Ace Detective. (You like what I did there? Oh the cleverness of me.) Although, if this keeps up, I'm going to need a Watson icon that says, "Damn it, I'm a doctor, not your sex ed teacher!"

All of which is to say...uh, the kink meme made me do it!

Title: Kid in a Candy Store
Characters: asexual!Sherlock, mortified!John, OC shop attendant
Genre: technically gen
Rating: PG-13, I guess, since it takes place in a sex shop. But everything that happens is pretty G.
Word Count: 1319
Summary: “I’m very disappointed in the adult world, John. Your brains are even more infantile than I’d thought.”
Warnings: sex toys, somewhat oblivious!Sherlock, and extreme amounts of embarrassment for poor John
Notes: Written for this prompt at [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc_fic:

Sherlock in a sex shop. Maybe it's for a case, maybe he has to replace his riding crop, maybe he's just curious... I don't care. Just have him in a sex shop poking around and asking questions to the bewildered shop assistants. May or may not include mortified John.

Somebody else suggested this should include asexual!Sherlock, and, well...this happened.

Want. Take. Credit. Don't hotlink. :)
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Holmes and Watson)
The promised full-length Sherlock fic. This was pretty much inevitable, really.

Title: However Improbable
Characters: John, Sherlock, Sarah, Molly
Timeframe: technically set after "The Great Game," but no spoilers, really
Genre: gen, flirting at the border with crack
Rating: PG I guess? Ha ha I have no idea how to rate this one.
Word Count: 3404
Summary: In which John tries to deduce Sherlock's sexuality, and Sherlock has much more important things on his mind. Like omelets and false moustaches.
Warnings: Er, porn? Only, not at all in the way you might think. Also, body parts in the refrigerator, and other unsanitary places.
Notes: This is by far the most self-indulgent thing I have ever written. I regret nothing.
Actual story notes at the end of the fic.

Huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kittyjimjams and [livejournal.com profile] albumsontheside for Britpicking and betaing!

However Improbable )
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Holmes and Watson)
Apparently I have written a Sherlock fic. Well, two actually.

The longer one is definitely the most self-indulgent thing I have ever written (if you read this journal you already know what it's about), and I fully intend to inflict it on the world. But! I don't want to inflict my Americanisms on the world with it, so I am looking for a beta! Or a britpicker, as the kids are apparently saying these days.

Any of you Brits on the f-list interested in giving it a once over?

In the meantime, here is a much shorter fic! Because I have not seen this issue addressed in the fandom yet, and obviously someone had to.

Title: When Death Is on the Line
Characters: Holmes, Watson, the cabbie (kind of)
SPOILERS: for "A Study in Pink"
Genre: gen, crack
Rating: G
Word Count: 221B (Apparently, a Holmes-fandom style of drabble with 221 words, the last of which begins with B.)
Summary: It was painfully obvious that Sherlock had never seen The Princess Bride.
Notes: I blame this entirely on [livejournal.com profile] veriond.

When Death Is on the Line )
fialleril: [vulnerable to our suddenly bare history] (of an emptied world)
So, you all remember how I had the sudden revelation that the desire of my heart is to see a genderbent version of Sherlock Holmes starring Freema Agyeman as Holmes?

Here are some further thoughts on that subject! With pictures!

casting behind this cut )
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Holmes and Watson)
Over the weekend I went and visited [livejournal.com profile] veriond at her new digs in Springfield, MO. She has a pretty nice place there, though still in the setting up process.

Anyway, the point of this post is: while in Springfield, we watched the BBC's new Sherlock miniseries.

I think I'm probably the last person on my f-list to have seen this, but just in case I'm not, here is a cut for spoilers!

This is the cut in question! )

So! The overall outcome of my consideration of these things has been to make me realize that the DESIRE OF MY HEART is to see a genderbent Sherlock Holmes. To the extent that I have even started casting it in my head! I know that I would love to see Freema Agyeman as Holmes. (I'm calling her Sheila. Yes, [livejournal.com profile] kittyjimjams, SHEILA. I will not be swayed! Although Sorcha is, I confess, also a good choice.) I think Genevieve O'Reilly would make a pretty good Watson. Further ideas, f-list?
