fialleril: [my unabating Malfoy problem] (Malfoys)

In other news, still don't have a lot of energy for a real fandom post (alas for the halcyon writing days of summer), so here, have this instead.
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (light the sky and hold on tight)
This is so cool!

Marco Tempest combines projection mapping and pop-up books to tell the story of Nikola Tesla, and everything about it is awesome. Give it a watch!

I am not a princess

fialleril: [rebel girl you are the queen of my world] (rebel)
My sister introduced me to this video when she was here over the summer, and it is one of the greatest things, you all should watch it immediately. You know, if you want.

A dance group put together a routine of "twisted fairy tales" set to a compilation of Marina and the Diamonds music. They use Snow White, Sleepy Beauty, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and the Little Mermaid, but the stories are put together so that they emphasize women's choices. I don't want to spoil the fairy tale endings too much, but I will say my favorite endings are the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast story lines.

Basically, a great compilation of stories about women making their own destinies, with a wonderfully diverse cast and great choreography. Give it a watch.

fialleril: [Spock demands an explanation for your fail] (human please)

This man came in fourth place. There is no justice in the world.

I love this man

fialleril: [hai thar bb] (Azula/Ty Lee)
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Charlie)

I am probably the last person in the world to hear about this guy, but just in case I'm not: Ladies and gentlemen - Prince Poppycock.

I want to see him do a duet with Lady Gaga.
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (team fail)
And it is tailor-made to bring me the lulz.

I mean, I don't know you guys, it's probable possible that I'm just in a weird mood, but I seriously laughed through this entire thing?

The trailer in question, and spoilers for it, under this cut )
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (snapped)
Happy birthday to [ profile] ansketil_rose! Hope you've had a great one. :)

In celebration, I offer you this:

Adam West, you will always be the best Batman.
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Megamind)
First off, happy birthday to [ profile] dagor_hamster. Hope the day has been a great one!

Today my co-worker/boss Jordan set up his brand new iMac. It is a thing of beauty and shinyness. I've been sitting here coveting it all day.

Someday, when I make actual money, I am going to invest in a Mac.

And in other news, the upcoming season looks to be a potentially good one for animated movies. Observe:

July 4 I guess

While I am ambivalent at best about some of the actual events and reasons behind today's American celebration, this video is too gloriously absurd not to post.

born of hope

fialleril: [I am glad that you are here with me] (here at the end of all things)
This is perhaps the best fanvid I've ever seen.

It's basically an hour-long production about Aragorn's parents, with insanely high production quality for a fanvid, and some pretty clever imagining of a storyline that Tolkien hardly fleshed out. (Although there are also some noticeable similarities to events in LOTR proper. But that's to be expected, I think. And even those are different enough that they're not distracting.)

Plus, there's Elladan and Elrohir! And a mini!Halbarad! And awesome rangers.

I think what impressed me the most about this vid is that it had enough substance in and of itself, and it was well done enough, that I could actually imagine it gaining a fandom of its own.

It's called Born of Hope. Check it out.
fialleril: [a bit like The Idiot, only written by someone much less talented than Dostoevsky] (Jar Jar Binks)
And I feel the need to share.

Okay, so I've been on a Disney kick lately. And you know they say that anyone who messes with Disney can destroy your childhood. But when Disney does it themselves? Eh, I dunno. It's kind of glorious, actually.

I think Hades/Maleficent is now my ultimate Disney OTP.

And also, I never want to see Hades dressed as Mickey Mouse again. But it's already too late. I think I've been scarred for life. And you all should be too, so have the video.

House of Mouse video under the cut )

If this keeps up I'm going to need a Disney icon.
fialleril: [scooping up the dust and chanting, Live] (a way to be good again)
Yeah, I know I should be asleep. Don't judge me, okay.

Anyway, I decided I needed to post this segment about Cheney, Gitmo, and Darth Vader. Just in case any of y'all missed it.

fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (I am Troy Davis)
The evidence for Troy Davis' innocence has still not been heard in any court, and the state of Georgia is continuing with plans to execute him. The messed up nature of our state's "justice" system couldn't be more clear.

Please send a letter to Georgia's governor Sonny Purdue asking him to support clemency for Troy Davis. Even if you don't live in Georgia, your voice is important.

fialleril: [the ghost behind you] (orpheus & eurydice)
Sorry for the absence (again!). I promise a real update and replies to everyone's comments soon. In the meantime, please enjoy the cutest video ever made.

I've been on a major Greek mythology kick lately (my geeky classicist is showing!), and I think this may be the most adorable version of the Hades and Persephone myth I've ever seen. It's an animation, with animals. Go watch it!

Persephone's Flight
fialleril: [scooping up the dust and chanting, Live] (a way to be good again)
I just finished watching the Star Wars episode of the Muppet Show from 1980 (five years before I was born!), featuring Luke, Chewie, Artoo, and Threepio. And Mark Hamill. The lulz are certainly strong with this one. The only question is whether they're good lulz or groaners.

Anyway, here is a link! Is it as awful as the infamous Holiday Special? Decide for yourselves!
fialleril: [the fires and the black river of loss whose other side is salvation] (Lando)
Yes, I'm still up at this hour. Don't judge me okay! The Olympics are on online.

But I saw this on [ profile] ali_wildgoose's journal, and I felt that it was my civic duty to pass it on.

This is the greatest video ever made.

fialleril: [a hug means it's love] (Mai and Zuko)
Under a cut for those who wish to avoid spoilers.

cut )
fialleril: [somebody's gotta save our skins] (voice of reason)
I'm a little depressed by the fact that no one seems to want to read my latest fic, so I decided to cheer myself up by posting the last of my Disney World pictures.

We'll start with the Star Wars parade and the Jedi Training Academy pics. (Please note: a lot of these pics are better if you view them in full size!)

painted faces on parade )

And now for what I know you've all really been waiting for: the pics from Snigg and Oopla's Hyperspace Hoopla! But first, if you haven't seen the video on YouTube yet, go do so. Unfortunately, the YouTube video is only of the dance off part of the show, but it is definitely worth watching.

Here's this year's:

And, for those who are interested, I also hunted down last year's. (It seems that last year was the first year for the dance off.)

And now, on to the pictures )

he is not one of us

fialleril: [a hug means it's love] (Mai and Zuko)
[ profile] veriond and I just watched The Lion King 2 for the lulz. It actually had some pretty good music. But the point is, there's this song, "Not One of Us," when Simba banishes Kovu.

And then I found this video.

Seriously, you guys. It's like the song was written for him. And it's hilarious.

Also, about the movie itself, I enjoyed the fact that the entire thing is basically about Mufasa being God. Okay, yeah, there's a Romeo and Juliet subplot too. But really, Mufasa=God. That's all you really need to know.
